The diagram below is an attempt at reconciling several divergent sources on the relationship between the various Sámi languages and dialects. The choice of which dialects to include is necessarily somewhat arbitrary.
Several extinct languages are included; among these Kemi Sámi which is the only Eastern Sámi language that corresponds to a preserved drum type.
